HIGHWOOD — Geraldine-Highwood is moving on to the quarterfinals of the 6-Man playoffs after decimating visiting Noxon, 51-14, in the first round of the 6-Man state playoffs on Saturday.
The Rivals wasted no time being aggressive, attempting and recovering an onside kick on the game’s opening kickoff. On the first play from scrimmage, the Rivals handed to J.R. Spencer, who followed the big downfield blocks of Mavrick McKinlay right into the end zone for a 40-yard touchdown.
After forcing a punt, Geraldine-Highwood quickly added to its lead. Quarterback Brady Duvall rolled out and found Isaiah Maxwell for an easy 15-yard touchdown pass, putting the Rivals up 16-0. Duvall and Maxwell would connect on a near identical play to put Geraldine-Highwood up 22-0 in the first half. Geraldine-Highwood kept its foot on the gas pedal, eventually winning 51-14.
With the win, Geraldine-Highwood will move on to the quarterfinals and host Richey-Lambert. The Fusion defeated Bridger 80-30 on Friday to earn the right to face the Rivals next week. Geraldine-Highwood and Richey-Lambert met in the regular season, with the Rivals coming away victorious 59-40 on their home field. Richey-Lambert will again have to hit the road to face Geraldine-Highwood.
