Class AA football roundup: Helena Capital stuns Billings Senior to stay in playoff hunt

HELENA – Helena Capital outscored Billings Senior 21-0 in the second half en route to a 42-21 Class AA football victory at Vigilante Stadium on Friday night. The win keeps the Bruins, now 4-5 this season, in the Class AA playoff hunt.

Billings Senior fell to 6-3 with the loss.

Bridger Grovom threw two touchdowns in the opening half, the first to Kaelan Casey for a 7-0 lead, then another to Parker Johnston to push the Bruins ahead 14-7. Oran Nash-Bergen’s 35-yard receiving score was the first for the Broncs. Nash-Bergen added a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown before halftime to tie the game at 21.

But the second half belonged to the Bruins, with Brady Martin opening the third quarter with a touchdown, which was followed by a Cy Miller score. Anthony Guiccione’s punt return touchdown ended the scoring.

Billings Senior, which has clinched a playoff spot, fell behind Helena High and Kalispell Flathead in the race for home playoff games. Bozeman clinched the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with its win over Great Falls High on Thursday, while Billings West will also host at least one postseason game.
