BUTTE – With the high school football season winding down, the teams sitting right outside the playoff bubble are feeling the heat. The Butte High Bulldogs happen to be one of those teams and are in need of some big wins.
They have one final home game this Friday against Billings Skyview before wrapping up the regular season on the road against Missoula Big Sky. Big Sky and Skyview have a combined 2-14 record. With the pressure to win and a season at stake, head coach Arie Grey and his players know that this is a day-by-day journey.
“Today we focus on the idea that we need to get better, and so that’s a big push,” Grey said. “It’s not that it’s not in the back of our minds and people aren’t thinking about it, that’s human nature, but the goal for us is to win the day and get better today. If we get better today, that’s going to give us an opportunity to take care of all the other business we need to take care of.”
“We know we feel what’s at stake here, so we got two more games guaranteed. We just want to finish strong, play for each other and play for our city, too,” said senior safety Dakota Eggers.
Butte is tied with Helena Capital and Kalispell Glacier for eighth place in the Class AA standings with 3-5 records.
Butte (3-5) and Skyview (0-8) kick off at 7 p.m. Friday at Naranche Stadium. Capital (3-5) hosts Billings Senior (6-2) and Glacier hosts Big Sky (2-4) the same night.
