HELENA — Grady Koenig ran for five touchdowns as No. 4 Helena High rolled past visiting No. 3 Great Falls High 47-21 on Friday.
Great Falls started fast, scoring the first two touchdowns of the game on Blake Thelen touchdown passes. First, Thelen found Keegan Bistodeau for 43 yards down the left sideline just 26 seconds into the game. Following a Helena punt, Thelen struck again, finding Kyle Torgerson from 22 yards out.
But it was all Bengals from that point.
Koenig got Helena on the board with a 1-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter. Quarterback Ty McGurran later knotted things up when he found Zach Spiroff behind the secondary for a 65-yard touchdown.
Koenig added two more touchdown runs in the first half to give the Bengals a 27-14 lead at the break.
Helena extended its lead to 33-14 when Great Falls snapped the ball over Thelen’s head on a punt attempt, allowing Hayden Ferguson to recover the ball in the end zone.
Thelen found Torgerson for the second time to cut the deficit to 33-21, but Koenig added two more touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, including a 73-yard scamper, for his five-touchdown night.
