KALISPELL — DeMarcus Carr scored four touchdowns, three in the first half, as Billings West knocked Kalispell Flathead from the unbeaten ranks, 42-20 on Friday night at Legends Stadium. The Braves fell to 2-1, while the Bears improved to the same mark.

West scored touchdowns on its first two offensive plays, while also blocking a Flathead punt and jumped to a 14-0 advantage. Josh Erbacher hit Alex Bruns on a receiver screen and the receiver sprinted past four defenders en route to the end zone. Carr broke two tackles on West’s next offensive play, boosting the Bears’ lead to 14-0. Erbacher hit Jesse Owens on a route over the middle that was stopped just short of the end zone, with Carr plunging in for his second score of the game. Carr broke through the Flathead defense for one more touchdown, with West entering the halftime locker room holding a 28-13 advantage.

The Bears scored on six of their eight drives, with one of the non-scoring drives ending with the halftime buzzer.

Erbacher continued his hot play as the Bears’ starting quarterback, throwing a touchdown strike to Conner Ryan to open the second-half scoring. Carr’s touchdown with under eight minutes remaining gave West a 42-13 lead, before MVP candidate Blake Counts scored in the final minute for Flathead, his second touchdown of the game, capping the 42-20 score.

Flathead and coach Kyle Samson will look to bounce back next week against Missoula Sentinel, with kickoff held at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula. Billings West hosts Great Falls High.
