KALISPELL – The Kalispell Flathead Braves finished their 2017 season with a road loss to Helena Capital in the first round of the Class AA playoffs, concluding the year with an overall record of 6-4.

Coming off their first win in 2018 against the Butte Bulldogs, the Braves will take on Capital once again in Week 2.

Flathead continues to look for production from senior running back Blake Counts, who gained more than 20 pounds in the offseason while also getting faster, according to head coach Kyle Samson. Senior receiver Anthony Jones also looks to link up with first-time starting quarterback Jaden MacNeil.

The Braves’ offense came out hot against the Bulldogs in Week 1 and posted an impressive 42 points, with Counts totaling more than 300 yards of offense. Going into Week 2 and the rest of the season Samson says the goal remains the same.

“We’re just trying to focus on some of the things we need to improve on from last week’s game and just try and get a little bit better every day in practice, and that’s kind of our thing,” said Samson. “We just want to make sure that every week we’re getting a little bit better, that we don’t take steps back, that we keep taking steps forward.”
