RUDYARD – North Star High School athletic director Brian Campbell confirmed in an e-mail Wednesday afternoon that the Knights will forfeit Saturday’s scheduled contest with Big Sandy.

“Due to inadequate participation numbers to safely put a team on the field, North Star will be forfeiting their 6-Man high school football game this Saturday,” Campbell said in a statement. “North Star has a bye during the September 8-9 weekend. The team is hoping to resume play after the bye with the resolution of some of their current injuries.”

North Star (1-0) opened the season with a 44-7 victory over Heart Butte in Week 1 of the season, but will fall to 1-1 with the forfeit. Big Sandy improves to 2-0 on the season after a 41-25 win over Sunburst to open the year.

The 6-Man North division is already without one team this year after Augusta had to cancel the varsity season due to lack of athletes, leaving the rest of the league with an extra bye week. The four Elks players who came out for football were granted an emergency co-op with Fairfield by the Montana High School Association.
