EAST HELENA -- In the very first football game of the East Helena High School's history, the team fell to the Frenchtown Broncs, 60-6, on Thursday. The East Helena Vigilantes struggled to remain competitive in the game, but rightfully so: East Helena is solely comprised of freshmen, playing at the junior varsity level.
Despite struggling, East Helena had some bright spots in the loss: Zyler Smith recorded the Vigilantes' first touchdown on a punt return, and the defense was able to hold the Broncs to two touchdowns in the second half after they scored more than their fair share in the first half.
The East Helena Vigilantes will take the experience and head to Butte to face Butte Central on Sept. 9.
