HELENA — Helena High outscored visiting Missoula Big Sky 30-18 in the second half of Tuesday night’s Western AA conference boys basketball game, trouncing the Eagles, 57-41.

Big Sky hung around for the first 16 minutes, trailing just 27-23 at halftime. But Helena, after shooting 40 percent in the first half, hit 60 percent of its shots in the third and fourth quarters to bury the Eagles. Big Sky struggled from the field in the second half, making just 6 of 17 field goal attempts.

Pierce Brown had a game-high 18 points for the Bengals. University of Providence commit Connor Murgel added 13. Camdyn LaRance and Daniel Morin had 13 apiece to lead the Eagles.

Helena improves to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in Western AA play. Missoula Big Sky falls to 3-14, 2-9. The Bengals turn their attention to Saturday’s meeting with crosstown rival Helena Capital, where postseason position is on the line. Big Sky hosts Capital on Thursday in Missoula.
