BUTTE – It was an all Maroon and Bronc Southwest A district championship as both boy/girls matchup featured Butte Central and Hamilton.
First up were the boys, and both teams were 1-12 record wise against each other this season coming into today’s championships. Butte Central took control of the game in the first half behind Cade Holter, and Brayden Harrington’s combined 27 points on the night. Hamilton went down 30-24 into halftime and head coach Travis Blome made some adjustments. The Broncs came out with stingy second half defense and Hunter Omlid dropped a game high 24. The Broncs held off Butte Central in an exciting final minute of regulation for the 54-52 win to take home the southwestern class A crown.
On to the second matchup between both schools, this time the girls taking the hardwood. Butte Central and Hamilton went back and forth all game long in an absolute scrap between the tow finalists. The Broncs were led by Mariola Tesoro with 12 points on 2-6 from three point land. The Maroons were led by none other than senior Tricia Joyce who had a game high 14. Hamilton got to within three points in the final seconds but Central was able to run out the clock for the 43-40 win to capture the southwest A title.
