FORT BENTON — The Fort Benton basketball teams hosted Chinook to close the regular season on Saturday.
The District 9C regular-season title was on the line in the boys game. The Sugarbeeters broke out to a 9-0 lead early and didn’t look back, as Chinook held the Longhorns to just 11 second-half points in a 57-33 victory. Chinook takes the regular-season title, increasing its record to 18-0 and 14-0 in district play. Fort Benton drops to 16-2 on the year and 12-2 in the district, with the Longhorns’ only two losses this season coming to Chinook.
Ethan Bell led the Beeters with 12 points, Isaac Bell finished with 11 points and Cord Schneider had 10 points. Garrett Diekhans led Fort Benton with 11 points.
For the girls matchup, Fort Benton came away with a 69-15 blowout win. Aspen Giese finished with 23 points for the Longhorns, followed by Maci Molinario with 10 points. The Fort Benton girls finished the regular season at 16-2, Chinook falls to 6-10.
Up next for the teams is the District 9C tournament at Havre High School Feb. 14-16.
