GREAT FALLS – Two of the best boys basketball teams in Class AA squared off for the second time this season as Great Falls CMR went up against Great Falls High at the Swarthout Fieldhouse on Tuesday.

Unlike the previous meeting, Great Falls High basically controlled the game from start to finish, spreading the ball around the floor. The Bison held the Rustlers to only 20 points through three quarters and came away with a 60-34 victory. Blake Thelen led all scorers with 15 points and Kyle Torgerson finished with 14 points, as Bison coach Bob Howard got his 500th career win.

“We just played the game that we could play. We set the tone in the first quarter, and it was hard for (CMR) to come back from that. So, I thought we played as a team, everybody contributed,” said Torgerson, a senior point guard. “There’s a couple of things that we have to clean up, but I thought it was a pretty good game for us. We’ve just got to stay together, just do what we do best, come out every game playing our best and we’ll see how it ends.”

The win brings Great Falls High to 12-2 overall and 7-1 in Eastern AA play. CMR falls to 10-4 on the year and 5-3 in conference play.

Great Falls High will go on the road to play Bozeman next on Feb. 15. CMR will head on the road to Billings Senior on the same day.
