DEER LODGE – The Deer Lodge Wardens welcomed in Class B rival Anaconda Thursday night for a boys and girls basketball doubleheader.
The boys game went back and forth between the two teams. The game was tied with less than three minutes to go in the third quarter, but Deer Lodge’s Dyllon McDermid buried a couple 3-pointers to give the Wardens a lead heading into the fourth quarter. With about a minute to go, the game got interesting. Anaconda’s Braedon Sawyer knocked down a couple big shots to make it a one-score game. With nine seconds to go, the Copperheads, down 46-43, got a shot to tie the game at the end of regulation, but the shot was blocked by the Wardens and Deer Lodge held on to win.
The girls game followed, and another good game was expected between these two fighting for postseason position in the last month of the regular season. Lyndsey Seitzinger got a couple early baskets and pushed the tempo for the Copperheads. On the Wardens’ side, it was senior Alyssa Lamb who knocked down a big 3 to keep the game tied. But the Wardens continue to dominate on their home court, pulling away for a big win, 57-36, to sweep rival Anaconda for the second time this season.
