GREAT FALLS – Russell Gagne scored 27 points, and the Great Falls CMR boys knocked off Bozeman, 61-53, behind a dominant defensive showing.

Gagne hit five 3-pointers in the contest, and the Rustlers led 9-7 after the first quarter and never relinquished the lead.

CMR’s lead swelled to as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter, but Bozeman kept it interesting, hitting several 3s to cut the lead to four points with just over two minutes remaining.

But CMR bent but didn’t break, handing the Hawks their first Eastern AA loss and bouncing back from a crosstown setback last Thursday.

The Rustlers (6-2, 2-1) will host Billings Senior Saturday at 2:30 p.m., while the Hawks (6-2, 2-1) head across town to face Great Falls High at the old gym.
