HAVRE — The 27th annual Native American Basketball Classic tips off on the campus of Montana State-Northern on Thursday. The three-day event features 20 games to help kick off the 2018-19 high school basketball season.
Ten schools, with both boys and girls teams, will play at Northern’s Armory Gymnasium. Defending state champions Arlee and Box Elder are in the field, as the Warriors, winners of the past two Class C boys basketball state championships, and Bears, the defending Class C girls state champions, will begin their title defenses. Heart Butte (State C boys), Rocky Boy (State B boys and girls), Lodge Grass (State B boys) and Poplar (State B girls) will also be at the Native American Classic.
Other schools participating in the tournament include Hays-Lodgepole, Browning (junior varsity teams) and Kainai, Alberta.
The event will also include a junior varsity tournament played at the Havre Central Gym on Dec. 9-10.
All tickets can be purchased at the MSU-Northern Armory Gymnasium or Havre Central Gym. There will be a total of five separate sessions for the varsity games, with ticket prices set at $12 for Session 1, $7 for Session 2, and $10 per sessions for Sessions 3, 4 and 5.
