MISSOULA — On Tuesday, two Missoula Loyola golfers came away with the individual titles in their respective divisions at the Loyola Spring Swing at Larchmont Golf Course — Bucky Crippen for the boys and Katie Fagg for the girls.
Fagg has finished as the runner-up at the State B tournament the past two years, but so far this season it has looked like her time to shine.
Fagg shot an impressive 79 on Tuesday to win the girls individual tournament. She says that shooting under 80 is great momentum the week before divisionals.
“It’s a very good feeling to break 80 going into divisionals next weekend and the state (tournament May 14-15), because that is always very important to keep going up instead of down. And I think that our team is also going to put in some lower scores, so we’re excited to see where we get next week,” said Fagg.
Loyola’s Bucky Crippen has been tearing up the competition in his senior year as a Ram and is looking to repeat as the Class B individual state champion.
Crippen is also coming off a win at Larchmont on Tuesday where he shot a 3-under-par 69. He has reason to feel good about his game and hopes the team can fire on all cylinders when the state tournament comes to Missoula in two weeks.
“This is our home invite. It’s our last one. I hope the team does well so we can kind of see where were at headed into state,” Crippen said. “I feel pretty good. I’m excited for state, it’s at the Ranch Club in Missoula, so I’m excited to end this senior year at a hometown course.”
Crippen, Fagg and the Missoula Loyola golf teams will tee off Tuesday, May 7 in the Class B Division 3 golf tournament at Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda. The State B golf tournament will be held May 14-15 at the Canyon River and King Ranch courses in Missoula.
