Missoula Lady Bruins drop first game at USA Hockey Nationals

STRONGSVILLE, OH – Brooklyn Hendrickson scored a hat trick to lead the Monarch Coyotes of Colorado to a 5-2 victory over the Missoula Lady Bruins on the opening day of the USA Hockey National Girls High School Championship Tournament at OBM Arena in Strongsville, Ohio.

The two teams from the Rocky Mountain West were well matched, but the Coyotes got off to an early lead with two unanswered goals in the first period. Junior Ellie Jenni got Missoula’s first goal on a rebound from sophomore Waverly Winterer midway through the second period. Missoula freshman Shaye Ewing scored Missoula’s second goal with six minutes to go in third period on a pass from sophomore Dora McDougall. Missoula junior Aubrey McKay had 30 saves in the game.

The Lady Bruins dropped to 21-12-2 and will play Team Texas Friday, March 29 at 12:30 pm (EDT) and Anchorage (AK) on Saturday, March 30 at 9:30 am (EDT).

In other Thursday games, Minnesota Dynamo Black beat Anchorage 4-1, and Team Texas beat the Gilmour Gladiators from Gates Mills, Ohio 16-0.
