PABLO – The Arlee Warriors and Charlo Vikings girls and boys were playing for the 14C District Title on Saturday evening.

In the girls game, it came down to the very last second. Earlier in the season, on January 11th,  the Warriors came into Charlo and won by 11, 52-10. As close as the last contest was, this one turned out to be even better.

Arlee was shooting well both inside and beyond the arc. However, on the defensive side, they fouled Charlo a lot, giving the Vikings easy points to take a 23-18 lead into the half. In the fourth Arlee played sound defense and gave themselves an opportunity to win. On the inbounds, Arlee’s Alyssia Vanderburg got a shot off with 1.1 seconds but it didn’t fall, giving Charlo the 14C title.

In the boys game in January, Arlee started out slow and turned it on in the second half to win 85-62. In this one, it was a similar result.

As expected the Arlee Warriors came out hot looking to defend their District title. They played sound defense and shot well to take a commanding lead by the second quarter, 22-6. In the second Charlo outscored Arlee to bring the deficit to 12, 25-37.

In the second half, Arlee turned it on, taking the win and the 14C title, 80-49.

Greg Whitesell had a game-high 28 points for Arlee.

Arlee and Charlo will have both its boys and girls teams at the Western C divisional tournaments running Feb. 21-23 in Butte.
