Rivals Arlee and Charlo to battle for 14C boys and girls championships

PABLO – The Arlee and Charlo rivalry will play a third doubleheader this season when the two 14C squads collide for a district championship on Saturday. All four teams won semifinals in the Joe McDonald Gym on the Salish Kootenai College campus on Friday.

The Charlo girls won the first semifinal, holding off Plains, 37-33. The Charlo boys followed with a 53-42 victory over Plains, as well. The Horsemen led early in the fourth quarter, but the Vikings finished with all of the needed plays in the clutch.

The Arlee girls held off a dangerous St. Regis challenger, 54-42, in the evening. Then, the two-time defending state champion Arlee boys ran past Hot Springs, 87-55.

The Arlee and Charlo girls start the championship showdowns with a 5:45 tipoff on Saturday. The two squads split their regular season matchups. Then, the Warriors and Vikings boys finish up the night with a 7:45 tipoff. Arlee won both earlier games versus Charlo.

In loser-out games on Friday, the St. Regis boys beat Two Eagle River, 71-47. And the Noxon girls eliminated Two Eagle River, 59-14.

More loser-out contests will start the day on Saturday. The Plains and Hot Springs girls play at 9:15. At the same time Noxon will battle St. Regis. The winners collide in the consolation at 2:15.

In the boys bracket, St. Regis and Hot Springs will meet at 11:00 AM. At the same time, Plains and Noxon square off. The winners battle for third place at 4:00.
