MISSOULA — On Thursday evening, the Missoula Hellgate Knights hosted the Sentinel Spartans with a chance for the Knights to clinch both the boys and girls city titles with wins.
In the girls game, it was a close contest. Both teams found success scoring in the first, ending that quarter 14-13 in favor of Sentinel.
In the second quarter, Hellgate shot well from 3-point range, but the Spartans hung in there pulling the Hellgate lead to just one at the end of the quarter, 21-20.
Coming out of the locker room in the second half the Knights dominated. Freshman Addy Heaphy drained her second 3 of the game to cap a 9-0 run from the Knights and a 10-point lead. In the end, the Knights were too much as they won 53-40.
With that win, the Knights sweep to win the city championship for the first time since 2003.
In the boys game, it was a different start. In the first quarter, the Knights came out hot. Hellgate star Rollie Worster scored 11 to give his team an 18-11 lead. By the end of the first half, the Knights grew that lead to 15.
In the second half, it was more from Hellgate, as it opened on a 6-0 run. In the end, Hellgate came away with the 74-35 win and with that become the Western AA and Missoula city champions.
