District 14C tips off first round in Pablo

PABLO – Teams battled for a spot in the semifinals in the first round of the District 14C tournaments in Pablo Thursday.

The St. Regis girls started the day with a 57-39 victory over Hot Springs, in the No. 4-versus-No. 5 matchup. The Tigers held a double-digit lead early in the third quarter. The Savage Heat crawled back within six in the third, but St. Regis finished the quarter on another run, and cruised to the victory.

The No. 4-seed Hot Springs boys followed that with a better start, jumping to a 10-0 lead over No. 5-seed Noxon. After that, the Red Devils hung tough but could never take the lead. Hot Springs hung on to win, 57-48.

Charlo enters as the No. 2 seed in both the boys and girls brackets. The girls crushed Two Eagle River 69-10. The boys also handled the Eagles, 66-44.

Plains won the final two games of the night. The Horsemen held off the St. Regis boys, 59-55. The Trotters beat the Noxon girls 39-23.
