Laurel girls, boys dominate Sidney

LAUREL – Chalk up another sweep at the Rail Yard.

Laurel’s basketball girls used a suffocating defense to run past Sidney 59-19 on Friday night.

The Locos held the Eagles to 6 points in the first half as they took a commanding 37-6 lead into halftime. Their defense did not let up in the second. In fact, it only improved in the fourth quarter as they pitched a shutout.

Laurel was never threatened as they coasted to their 12th victory of the season.

Aspen Cotter led the Locos with 13 points, while Mya Hansen added 11.

Laurel’s girls continue to lead the Eastern AA standings with a 7-1 mark, 11-5 overall and hosts Glendive Saturday. Sidney falls to 0-9, 1-16 and plays at Billings Central on Saturday.

The boys played the late game on senior night and shined from start to finish. Laurel grabbed an 18-6 lead midway thru the second quarter and never looked back rolling to a 59-27 win.

Laurel’s boys improved to 11-5, 5-3 on the season with the victory. Sidney drops to 1-8, 4-13.
