Frenchtown girls score final 14 points in comeback; Hamilton boys make it a split

FRENCHTOWN – Two groups of Broncs split Southwestern A conference basketball victories on Thursday night. Both winners made comebacks in the second half.

The Frenchtown girls started the doubleheader with a remarkable finish on their way to a 34-30 victory. Hamilton led by nine at halftime and 30-20 late in the third quarter, but the visiting Broncs didn’t score again. Frenchtown scored the final 14 points of the game to come back and steal the win.

Kiya Shelton led Frenchtown with 10 points, including five in the decisive fourth quarter. Lauren Ryter scored a game-high 13 points for Hamilton.

In the boys game, Frenchtown jumped out to a quick lead and held the advantage over the visiting Broncs 29-27 at halftime. Hamilton took the lead back early in the second half and gradually pulled away for a 61-52 victory.

Traey Searle scored 18 points for Hamilton, while Tanner Goligoski added 17. Cade Baker matched the game-high with 18 points for Frenchtown.
