LAUREL – The Laurel Lady Locomotives jumped out to a 25-23 lead after two quarters and opened it up in the second half, as they beat Belgrade, 51-42. The boys took the floor right after and quickly caught fire. Laurel raced out to a 20-2 lead and never looked back as they rolled, 63-36, on Friday night.
The Lady Locos woke up after halftime. They came out with a clear plan and that was to attack the basket every chance they got.
They executed that plan to perfection. The second half turned into a lay-up for Laurel, and Mya Hansen’s zig-zag lay-in to end the third made it a 41-33 game.
The Panthers stayed within shouting distance during the final quarter but were never able to make it one possession game. Hansen led Laurel in scoring with 13 points.
The boys had a much easier time. Laurel locked down on defense and only allowed two first-quarter points, and Belgrade never recovered.
Gaje Leischner dropped four triples in the first half and led the way with 12 points.
