MISSOULA – The Missoula Sentinel Spartans girls start another basketball season with high expectations. And they looked ready to meet the challenge in their opener.

The Spartans dominated down the stretch to pull away from Stevensville. Sentinel won the first game for both teams, 70-23.

Karen Deden’s club led only 20-14 in the second quarter. Then, Sentinel outscored the Yellowjackets 50-9 the rest of the game. The Spartans led 29-15 at halftime and 45-20 at the end of the third quarter.

The game was also the first for new Stevensville head coach Alycia (Sims) Harris, a former Yellowjackets star who finished her playing career with the Montana Lady Griz two seasons ago.

Down in Stevensville, the Spartans made it a sweep on the boys court. Sentinel jumped out to a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter, and pulled away from the Yellowjackets to win, 78-42.
