BILLINGS – The last time Billings Central and Laurel played soccer on Wendy’s Field at Rocky Mountain College, the Locomotives stormed off with a State A championship. That was last October.
Thursday afternoon, the Rams regained control of their home field with a 2-0 to stay perfect this regular season. It was Laurel’s first loss since the title match.
The Rams struck first in the 29th minute when Zoie Althoff connected for a 1-0 lead. Althoff iced it with another in the 55th minute.
There was a weather delay of approximately 30 minutes due to hail and lightening with 14:13 left in the game.
The rivalry picks up two weeks to the day when they square off in Laurel on October 4 at 5 p.m.
Thursday’s boys game was scoreless at halftime before Laurel tacked on two in the second for a 2-0 win.
Bryce Adkins lobbed it over the keeper’s head in the 63rd minute for a 1-0 Locomotives lead. Layne Chelgren put the match away with one more in the final minute.
The boys also play their rematch two weeks from tonight in Laurel with a 7 p.m. start.
