BELGRADE – The State Class B-C softball tournament kicked off with eight teams on Thursday afternoon at the Belgrade Softball Complex. Florence, the top seed in the West scored a 13-3 win over Cut Bank.
Meanwhile, after starting the game down 6-1 to Plains-Hot Springs, Huntley Project stuck with it and completed the comeback, defeating the Trotters 10-7.
In the late afternoon games, Eureka defeated Great Falls Central in the opening round 5-4. But the game of the day had to be Missoula Loyola against top-seeded Shepherd. The Breakers pulled off a big upset as the No. 4 seed, defeating Shepherd 8-7. Loyola was the only lower-ranked seed to win in the opening round.
The tournament is double-elimination, so every team still has a shot at the title. Play resumes Friday at 10 a.m.
