State title matches are set after B-C Tennis day 2

GREAT FALLS – Friday marked the second day of the Class B/C State Tennis Tournament in the indoor Meadowlark Country Club courts. In the semi-finals for boys singles, defending state champion from Great Falls Central Roger Mai defeated Loyola’s Jake Hollenbeck in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Mai heads back to the state championship game for the second straight year. He’ll be facing his teammate, as Great Falls Central’s Nicholas Scott defeated Valley Christian’s Trey Christiaens in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.

For the girls singles semis, Choteau’s Michaela Gunderson defeated Loyola’s Grace Daniel 7-6 (0), 6-1. Gunderson will face Bigfork’s Ellie Berreth in the singles championship, as she beat Choteau’s Christine Funk in the other semi, 6-2, 6-3.

The biggest upset of the day was in girls doubles and it belonged to Katie Giles and Megan Clark from Fort Benton. They upset the defending champions from Conrad in the semi-final, Dalayne VanDyke and Dania Jones in three sets, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 7-6 (5). Giles and Clark will play Chinook’s Megan Pruttis and Sierra Swank in the championship after the ‘Beeters defeated Cut Bank’s Riley Bird and Megan Barrett in the semi-final, 6-1, 7-6 (3).

The championship matches will be held at the CMR courts on Saturday.
