HELENA – The fourth-seeded Helena High Bengals softball team looked ready for the upcoming state tournament Thursday as they swept fifth-seeded Missoula Big Sky 13-3 and 18-1 in the best of three game playoff.

In game one, Payton Hudson started the scoring for Big Sky with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. But the home team Bengals answered back in a big way with Addie Slanger, Vanessa Walsh, Jamie Pickens, Amber Countryman and Mackenna Schmolke all adding to a seven-run second inning.

Mariah English was the winning pitcher for the Bengals. She only allowed six hits and three runs over the course of six innings in the win.

Game two went even better for Helena High, led by Pickens’ four RBI afternoon and home run hit by Sam Matteucci in the second inning.

Helena High will advance to the Class AA softball state tournament in Helena starting playing top seeded Great Falls High.
