ANACONDA — One of the best scorers in Anaconda’s illustrious boys basketball history is set to lead the program from the bench.

Rochi Estes, who scored more than 1,000 career points playing for the Copperheads, will be Anaconda’s next head coach. Estes was an assistant under coach Bill Hill, who resigned after this past season. The Heads advanced to the Class B state tournament each of the past two seasons, earning the second-place trophy in 2017.

Estes graduated from Anaconda High School in 2006 after setting the program record for 3-pointers made in a single season (89) and career (220). Estes also had seasons of 75 and 56 made 3-pointers, the second- and fifth-best seasons in Anaconda history. His 220 career 3s would rank fifth all-time in the Montana High School Association record book. Then a 5-foot-10 guard, Estes signed to play college basketball at Montana Tech before ultimately transferring to Dickinson (N.D.) State.

Estes has been an assistant coach at Anaconda since the 2010-11 season, the first two under Jason Buell and the past six under Hill. For more on Estes’ hiring, please click here for Blake Hempstead’s report at www.copperheadcountry.org.
