MISSOULA – The Western AA tennis tournament served as a city championship, while also awarding tickets to the state tournament. Missoula Sentinel players captured three of the four titles, with Missoula Hellgate capturing one bracket.
Sentinel swept the singles titles. In girls, Merideth Murdock swept past Hellgate’s Maya Haberneski in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Two Spartan boys met in the final, with Jake Treece winning a back-and-forth match against Connor D’Angelo 6-4, 0-6, 6-2.
Sentinel also captured the boys doubles championship. Ethan Violette and Cody Curtis took down the Hellgate pair of Jesse Howard and Cole Tolleson-Knee 6-4, 7-5.
Hellgate dominated the girls doubles bracket, taking the top four places. Olivia Panarella and and Hannah Worden beat Kate Koenig and Maya Heffernan 6-1, 6-0 in the final.
The top placers advance to the State AA tennis tournament, which starts in Kalispell next Thursday.
