BUTTE – Great Falls High clinched the top softball seed in the Eastern AA and a bye to the state tournament with a doubleheader sweep of Butte on Tuesday.
The Bison won Game 1, 3-1, after scoring three runs in the second inning and withstanding a Bulldog threat late in the game. The Bulldogs managed a run in the fifth inning but couldn’t overcome the steady pitching of Erin Hocker.
Great Falls High (18-0, 12-0) won Game 2 in six innings 10-0 due to the 10-run rule. The Bison will close the regular season with a non-conference tripleheader against Missoula Hellgate, Sentinel and Big Sky on Saturday.
Butte finished the regular season with a 14-7 overall mark with an 8-4 record in the Eastern AA standings. The State AA tournament begins May 24 in Helena.
