With all the challenges posed by inclement weather this spring, it seems like the softball season just recently really got started. Now, it’s rapidly nearing its conclusion.

Teams will put their finishes touches on the regular season this week as final seeds are determined for the state playoffs in Class AA and divisional tournaments in Classes A and B-C.

Helena Capital (15-1 overall, 11-0 conference) has clinched the Western AA’s No. 1 seed and automatic bid to the Class AA state tournament. Great Falls High (16-0, 10-0) can clinch the Eastern AA’s top seed with one more conference win. The Bison play second-place Butte (14-5, 8-2) in a Thursday doubleheader. Miles City (Eastern A), Belgrade (Central A), Hamilton (Southwestern A) and Polson (Northwestern A) all have undefeated conference marks, giving them the inside tracks for their respective No. 1 seeds. Both the Eastern A and Central A will hold divisional tournaments next week. Three teams from each division qualify for the Class A state tournament. Huntley Project sits atop the Eastern B-C standings with an 8-0 conference record, while Florence is a perfect 9-0 in the Western B-C (South).
