MISSOULA – The countdown continues for the upcoming KPAX Sports Awards Banquet, where we continue highlighting nominees for the student-athlete of the year honors.

Missoula Big Sky’s Brooke Kearns has found success in the field and on the court in high school. Kearns won the State AA title in the discus last year. She has tosses in the disc and shot put this season that rank among the 10 best in Montana.

She became a second-team all-conference selection on the volleyball court, and Kearns holds a 3.5 GPA in the classroom.

When asked who gave her the greatest motivation to succeed, she singled out her older sister Hannah, who now competes in track for the Montana Grizzlies.

“My role model would be my sister, because she was always going to be the one that pushed me the hardest to be better at everything I was doing,” said Kearns. “Whether it was volleyball or track, she was always on the sideline to be my cheerleader.”

We will honor Kearns, the rest of our nominees and a few other very deserving winners at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet next Tuesday, May 8. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn.

For tickets to the banquet, swing by the KPAX television station during normal business hours, at 1049 West Central Avenue in Missoula.
