GREAT FALLS — After several weather delays this spring, the installation of the all-weather track surface is finished at Memorial stadium and line painting started earlier this week.

According to the Great Falls Public Schools activities department, the track needs one or two more days of painting and drying before it’s ready for competition, and will tentatively see its first action on May 8 for the crosstown city meet between Great Falls High and Great Falls CMR, barring any unforeseen weather delays or circumstances.

The track will get plenty of use over the next three weeks beginning with the District 10C and 1B meets on May 12, followed by the Northern C meet on May 17 and the Northern/Eastern B meet on May 19. The Class AA and C state meets are scheduled on the track May 25-26.

The Special Olympics state summer games will also utilize the track May 16-18.

The district explored contingency plans for moving events to other sites or cities in case weather didn’t cooperate, but sunny conditions over the past few weeks mean fans, coaches and athletes can breathe a sigh of relief that plans won’t have to change.
