MISSOULA – We start our profiles of the nominees for student-athlete of the year at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet with a standout from Missoula Hellgate.
Ellee Becker has become an all-state runner in cross country and track for Hellgate in the fall and spring, while also swimming for the Knights’ powerhouse program in the pool during the winter. She’ll move on to the University of Portland next year where Becker will still compete as a distance runner and pursue a career in nursing.
This year we will ask every nominee to highlight someone they looked up to through high school. Becker singled out her Hellgate running coach, Anders Brooker.
“He has been a really big role model to me,” said Becker. “Just because of his work ethic, and how he’s pushed me to be a better runner and athlete in general and also a person.”
We will honor Becker and the rest of our nominees and winners at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet next Tuesday night. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn.
