MISSOULA – Now we meet another nominee for student-athlete of the year at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet.

Will Dauenhauer has shined in two sports and in the classroom at Hellgate. He played a big part on three state champion soccer teams, but he’ll concentrate on track and field in college, where he’ll run middle distances for the Montana Grizzlies. The 3.65-GPA student also plans to major in physics.

Dauenhauer credits his coaches in his two sports as role models that helped him reach his goals.

“Definitely coaches, Jay Anderson (soccer) and Anders Brooker (track),” said Dauenhauer. “They modeled me into the athlete I am today. Controlling your emotions, Jay Anderson really helped me. Soccer can be an emotional sport. Anders has helped me with racing experience.”

We will honor Dauenhauer, the rest of our nominees, and some outstanding award winners next Tuesday night. The evening begins with dinner at 6 p.m. in the Hilton Garden Inn.

If you would like to join us, you can pick up tickets at the KPAX station during normal business hours, at 1049 West Central Avenue in Missoula.
