BUTTE — There wasn’t much action for the first half of the game, but a pair of home runs, including an inside-the-park job, helped the Butte Bulldogs defeat the Bozeman Hawks 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader in the Mining City on Thursday.
Butte’s Emma Cox broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a deep shot to left field that bounced off the fence. The Hawks’ left fielder flipped over the fence, allowing Cox some extra time to touch all of the bases. Taylor Huff hit a home run in the fifth inning that went over the fence to extend the lead to two, before adding a pair of insurance runs in the sixth frame.
Kadie McClafferty struck out 10 Hawks in a complete-game shutout.
The Bulldogs cruised past Bozeman 19-4 in the second game.
