GLENDIVE – CJ Nelson signed his NJCAA Letter of Intent to play basketball next season for Dawson Community College. Nelson is a 6’0 guard from Scobey who was selected to the all-conference team for the past three years as well as all-state and all-state tournament teams for the past two years for the Class C School. He has helped Scobey post a 49-5 record over the past two years. As a senior, he averaged 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals per game. He shot 41% from the 3-point line and 72% from the free-throw line.

Nelson said, “I feel Dawson will be a great fit for me to continue my educational and basketball careers for the next two years. Coming from a smaller school I feel like it will be easy to adapt to and focus on my schoolwork and playing basketball. I really like the basketball program and I believe I will become a better player at DCC.”

Nelson captained Scobey High School to a 3rd place finish in the Class C State Tournament as a junior and a 4th place finish as a senior. Their team success includes winning the District Tournament for the past three years and the Divisional Tournament for the past two years.

Dawson head coach Joe Peterson was elated, “We try hard to recruit the best players in Montana and I think we got a special one in C.J. We have watched him play a lot in the past couple of years and love how well-rounded his game is. Compared to most high school players, he is able to make the jump to the college game defensively, but also will be able to succeed on the offensive end. What I love most is how hard he plays. He is a competitor and a winner.”
