MISSOULA – A two-month long season started on a cool and breezy day at Missoula Big Sky on Tuesday, but Butte’s Kadie McClafferty already looked in mid-season form.

The Bulldogs pitcher tossed a no-hitter in the season opener, striking out 10 Eagles batters, as Butte topped Big Sky 3-0.

McKenna Bessette tossed a great game as well in the pitcher’s duel. She gave up only nine hits in seven innings.

Butte scored an unearned run in the first inning, then added two in the fourth. Taylor Huff singled into left field, bringing Brittany Tierney home and advancing Jenna Moroney to third. During the next at-bat, Moroney scampered home on a wild pitch for the last run of the game.

Big Sky will now travel to Billings for a busy couple days of softball. The Eagles will play a doubleheader at Senior on Friday afternoon, and then single games at West and Skyview on Saturday. Butte will travel to Belgrade on Thursday.
