MISSOULA — Tavia Rooney stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and five steals to help Townsend to a 41-37 overtime win over Deer Lodge in the State B girls basketball consolation game at Dahlberg Arena on Saturday.

Both teams struggled in the early going, combining for just 20 first-half points. The Wardens held an 11-9 advantage at the break, but the Bulldogs answered with a strong third quarter. They outscored Deer Lodge 15-8 in the period to take a 24-19 lead into the fourth.

The Wardens, though, went on a big run to start the fourth and ultimately took a five-point lead with five minutes remaining. Townsend rallied to tie the game at 32 and force overtime.

The Bulldogs dominated the extra frame, scoring the first six points of overtime on their way to the 41-37 win.

Charlott Watson added 13 points for Townsend, while Josee Applegate led a balanced Deer Lodge scoring attack with nine points.

Rooney, a 6-foot junior, averaged 13.5 points, 16 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 3.3 steals per game in Townsend’s four state tournament games.
