GREAT FALLS — Dani Douglas didn’t want to end her high school career on a loss.

The senior point guard had a performance to remember in the consolation final, scoring 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting including a perfect 6-of-6 from beyond the arc in a 52-36 win over Hamilton.

“I felt good,” she laughed “I just had a touch on my shot tonight.”

Douglas paced the WildKats in the first half with 15 points on five three pointers to build a 27-16 lead at the break. If Douglas owned the first half, her fellow senior Hannah Gedlaman owned the second, scoring all of her 12 points in the final 16 minutes.

Trista Cowan joined her teammates in double figures with 10 points and 9 rebounds. When the senior starters checked out with under a minute left in the game it was emotional.

“It’s bittersweet,” said Douglas. “It’s sad that it’s over but I’m just happy to end on a win and get third. And I’m just so proud to be on this team.”

Cariann Kunkel led the Broncs with nine points but Hamilton only shpot 32.5-percent from the field compared to 52.6-percent for Columbia Falls.

The win capped a great year for the WildKats. The defending Class A champs lost a lot of pieces from their 2017 squad but still stayed near the top of the rankings and standings all year long.

“It feels reall great, it’s surreal right now,” Douglas said. “Honestly I think we proved a lot of people wrong. A lot of people didn’t think we were going to make it to state so this is really great.”
