LAUREL – Park City’s basketball guys didn’t have to worry about the rigors of a challenge game.

The Panthers won are instead Southern C Basketball’s Cinderella story after winning Saturday’s divisional title.

Park City got there by edging Melstone 44-42, handing the Broncs their only loss of the season in Friday’s semifinals. Then they beat Bridger 61-39 in the title game.

“Our team played so good,” said Panthers’ post Talon Johnstone after Saturday’s win. “We played so relaxed. It’s the best we played all year. I’m just excited to keep building on this. We’re going to make a pretty good run, I think. I mean I love my teammates. We’re playing really well. We’ll just keep building.”

Panthers’ guard Rylan Gauthier was candid about bouncing back from a rough outing at the District 6C Tournament.

“Had to come back from districts,” he said. “We didn’t play very good that game, so it gave us some fire coming into this game. We take pride in our defense. That’s what we work on everyday in practice. We’re just going to go there and compete as best as we can”

Park City opens the State C tournament Thursday against Fairview in Butte.

Melstone faces Scobey after eliminating Bridger 52-36 in Monday’s Southern C challenge game.
