WOLF POINT — Scobey nearly fell from the ranks of unbeatens on Friday evening, but survived a potential game-winner as time expired to defeat Fairview 46-45 in the Eastern C divisional championship game. The Spartans improved to 23-0 this season.

The teams entered halftime tied at 22, with Fairview’s Carson Cayko leading the scoring with 12 points in the first 16 minutes. The Warriors got nine points from Josh Herron in the first half. Scobey was led by CJ Nelson’s nine points.

The Spartans held a one-point lead in the final seconds, but Fairview’s attempt at a game-winner was off the mark, giving Scobey the 46-45 win and Eastern C championship. The loss forces Fairview into a challenge game against Westby-Grenora.

Nelson finished the game with 21 points, four rebounds and a steal. Caden Handran added eight points and four rebounds, while Riley Linder scored six points in the win.

Cayko finished with a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds.

The Thunder from MonDak held off Froid-Medicine Lake 45-33 in Friday’s consolation game behind 11 points and three rebounds from Jeremiah Paine. Bruce Carter added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Westby-Grenora charged out to a 28-18 halftime lead and held off a Froid-Lake third quarter rally to earn the win.

Javonne Nesbit had a game-high 14 points for Froid-Lake.

Westby-Grenora and Fairview tip off at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, with the winner joining Scobey at next weekend’s State C tournament in Butte.
