Southern C Boys: Melstone and Park City win afternoon contests; Plenty Coups and Bridger advance as well

LAUREL – The Melstone boys closed the first half on a 16-0 run on their way to a 42-25 win over Reed Point-Rapelje in a Southern C divisional opening round game Thursday.

The Renegades pulled within 9-8 after scoring the first three points of the second, but Melstone then ran off 16 straight to take a commanding 25-8 lead into halftime. Reed Point never got back within single digits.

Shayden Cooke led the Broncs with 16 points. Brody Grebe added 13, six rebounds, and five assists. The win moves Melstone to 20-0 on the season.

PARK CITY 64, Jordan 32

Park City used a 21-0 run between the first and second quarters to take a commanding lead on Jordan, on the Panthers’ way to a 64-32 win in a Southern C divisional opening round game Thursday.

The Mustangs led 14-6 midway through the first, before Park City scored 29 of the final 34 points of the half. The run continued in the third, as the Panthers outscored Jordan 20-8 to take a 55-27 lead into the final eight minutes.

Rylan Gauthier led all scorers with 23 points. Connor McNeil added 18 on 8-12 FG shooting. Edward Murnion led the Mustangs with 12.

Park City and Melstone will face off in the Southern C semifinal Friday night at 6:30 p.m.

BRIDGER 55, Wibaux 40

Bridger took a 27-21 lead into the half and Wibaux never got closer than 4 the rest of the way as the Scouts moved on with a 55-40 victory.

Tel Lunde kept the Longhorns within shouting distance with 15 points but there was no stopping Bridger and Kolton Pospisil in the second half.

Pospisil led all scorers with 24 points, while Carson Roberts was a monster on the boards with 19 rebounds. Roberts also added 14 points in the victory.

PLENTY COUPS 81, Terry 65

In the night cap at the Southern C, Plenty Coups ran past Terry 81-65.

It was the Blake DeCrane show all night for the Warriors. The senior guard poured in 37 points and was a magician with the basketball as he led Plenty Coups to an opening round win.

The Warriors led by 13 at halftime and never slowed down in the second half.

Brendan Falls Down notched a double double with 20 points and 15 rebounds in the 16-point victory. Shad Mack led the Terriers with 18 points.

Plenty Coups will face Bridger in the second Southern C semifinal Friday night at 8:00 p.m.
