Top seeds roll through 14C tournament first round

PABLO – The top-seeded teams rolled on through the first round of the 14C District tournament on Thursday as the No. 4-versus-No. 5 matchups provided a couple close games at Salish Kootenai College.

The No. 4-seed Noxon boys started the day with a 61-55 victory over No. 5-seed Two Eagle River. No. 3-seed Charlo followed after a slow start, pulling away from No. 6-seed Hot Springs, 61-35. And No. 2-seed Plains ended the boys bracket on Thursday with a 61-16 victory over No. 7-seed St. Regis.

On the girls side, No. 5-seed St. Regis pulled off the only upset of the day, taking down fourth-seeded Noxon 37-28. No. 3-seed Charlo handled No. 6-seed Hot Springs 55-23. No. 2-seed Arlee dominated No. 7-seed Two Eagle River 65-3.

The tournament continues on Friday with semifinal matchups. The Plains and Charlo boys tip off at 1:15 p.m. The Arlee girls take on Charlo at 3:30 p.m. Arlee’s undefeated boys battle Noxon at 5:15 p.m. The top-seeded Plains girls end the night with a game against St. Regis at 7 p.m.
