RONAN – The hosting teams from Ronan and the boys and girls from Libby enjoyed success on the opening day of the Northwest A District tournament on Thursday.
The Ronan girls started the day with a 48-42 win on their home court over Whitefish. The No. 4-seed Maidens got 20 points from star senior Micalann McCrea against the No. 5-seed Bulldogs.
The Ronan boys also picked up a win in the first round. The No. 5-seed Chiefs took down No. 4-seed Columbia Falls 65-52. Ronan led 15-0 after the first quarter.
The Libby girls also earned a spot in the semifinals with a 31-22 win over Polson. The No. 3-seed Loggers were led by Jayden Winslow with 11 points.
The Logger boys, also the No. 3 seed, took down No. 6-seed Whitefish 50-30. Libby dominated from the beginning, building a 32-8 lead at halftime. JJ Davis scored a team-high 12 points for Libby.
The Northwest A tournament continues with semifinals on Friday. Ronan’s girls open against top-seeded Columbia Falls at 3:30 p.m. Then Ronan’s boys take on No. 1 Browning at 5 p.m. Libby’s girls take on No. 2 Browning at 6:30 p.m., and Libby’s boys wrap up the night again versus No. 2-seed Polson at 8 p.m.
