BILLINGS – The Billings Central Rams swept a Saturday afternoon basketball doubleheader with rival Laurel after the games were rescheduled to accomodate the new Eastern A travel schedule.

Central’s girls stifled the Locomotives in the opener, giving up only 24 points in a 49-24 win. An Aspen Cotter 3-pointer pulled Laurel within 14-11 in the second quarter, before Central closed the game on a 35-13 run.

The result means Laurel, Central, and Hardin all now have two losses each in the Eastern A with only one regular-season week remaining.

Central’s boys, meanwhile, stayed just one game back of Hardin in their Eastern A race with a 63-53 win over Laurel. The Locomotives led 25-22 at halftime, but Central’s Sam Gray scored the first 13 points of the third quarter to give the Rams the lead for good.

Glendive and Sidney were originally scheduled to play in Yellowstone County on Friday and Saturday, but hazardous travel conditions postponed the games to Monday, Feb. 12 and Tuesday, Feb. 13. Central’s boys host Glendive Monday, with Sidney in Laurel.

The Central girls play in Glendive Monday, with Laurel in Sidney. All four swap opponents Tuesday.
