Three Forks girls, boys claim District 5B regular-season titles

THREE FORKS – Trailing by one point at halftime, Three Forks opened the third quarter on a 12-2 run to grab a nine-point lead and eventual 63-54 win over Townsend to win the District 5B girls basketball regular-season conference championship on Saturday.

Shainy Mack had 10 of the Wolves’ 12 points during the run. Mack scored 12 of her game-high 22 points in the third quarter.

With just under three minutes to play, Townsend cut the deficit to two at 54-52. However, Mack found Heather Wilson in the corner for a 3-pointer to give the Wolves breathing room.

Kyle Olson had 19 points and Morgan Allen had 10 for Three Forks. Townsend was led by Tavia Rooney’s 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Three Forks pushed its record to 16-0. Townsend fell to 14-2, with both losses coming against Three Forks.

On the boys side, Three Forks jumped out to a 12-0 advantage and never looked back. The Wolves went on to win, 52-44. The win also gave the Three Forks boys the District 5B regular-season title and improved their record to 13-3 overall.

Both the Three Forks boys and girls finish the regular season unbeaten in conference play.
