MISSOULA – Kalispell Glacier didn’t have a way to stop Sam Beighle. The star senior guard led Missoula Sentinel to an important Western AA boys basketball win, 66-59, on Saturday.

Beighle scored 36 points, more than half of his team’s total. No other Spartan scored more than nine. Alex Whitman led Glacier with 18 in defeat.

Beighle and the Spartans steadily pulled away from the Wolfpack, building up a 10-point lead after three quarters. Glacier out-scored Sentinel in the fourth, but couldn’t make the comeback.

Sentinel bounced back from their first conference loss to Kalispell Flathead on Tuesday, improving to 5-1 at the midway point in Western AA play. The Spartans remain tied with crosstown rival Missoula Hellgate for first place.

Defending state champion Glacier fell to 3-3 and into a tie with Helena Capital for third place. At 4-2, Flathead is now alone in third place, after also beating Glacier on Thursday.
